Challenge

NVISO, a leading provider of affective computing and deep learning software, asked us for help on exploring new product angles for their proprietary image recognition and emotion awareness system for the financia industry.

Using emotion recognition to make investment guidance more adaptive, personalized, and human-aware.

Their AI system — capable of interpreting micro-expressions, gaze direction, and cognitive load — offered a novel opportunity: to evaluate a user’s emotional engagement and comprehension during digital interactions, and dynamically guide them toward the most appropriate investment products.

However, deploying this technology in a live bank setting raised several key challenges:

  • Users had no existing mental model for emotionally responsive systems in finance.
  • The platform needed to translate subtle AI signals into clear, explainable interactions — across both tablet and web interfaces.
  • Cross-functional input was required, including AI, neuro-marketing, UX, and product teams, to ensure the system was both scientifically sound and user-friendly.

Solution

Twistag collaborated with NVISO’s AI, data science, and neuromarketing teams to design and develop a real-time, emotion-aware advisory interface for deployment in pilot programs across two Swiss banks.

Key features included:

  • A cross-platform interface (tablet + web) that monitored user engagement and stress signals during investment advisory flows.
  • A UX layer that used those signals to adapt guidance tone, pacing, and product recommendation paths — helping users better understand complex financial instruments like ETFs and equity portfolios.
  • A consent-first experience that transparently informed users about how their emotional data was being used, with optional opt-out points.
  • A modular architecture that allowed advisors or end users to receive emotion-informed nudges, such as “You seem uncertain — would you like a simpler explanation or comparison?”

Extensive user testing was conducted with both internal bank stakeholders and target customer profiles, focusing on clarity, trust, and comprehension.

Results

The pilot confirmed that emotionally adaptive interfaces could meaningfully enhance digital investment journeys:

  • Improved user understanding and confidence when navigating financial product options
  • Enhanced ability to match product suggestions to user engagement patterns, resulting in more relevant paths through advisory workflows
  • Strong positive feedback from bank innovation and advisory teams, noting the system’s potential to support first-time investors and reduce drop-off in digital channels
  • Creation of a reusable UX framework for emotion-aware systems, positioning NVISO to scale the solution across new financial contexts and markets.
